What type,weight & brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?

I am a 17 yr old female who just bought her first car a 1993 VW Passat with a VR6 motor. Would anyone know what the manufacture recommends to use when doing a oil change as far as weight, brand %26amp; type ? ( synthetic -? )What type,weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?
you should use a castrol semi synthetic oil at a 10w40, also don't forget to change the oil filterWhat type,weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?
First of all, I would like to personally thank you on your purchase of a Volkswagen for your first car. These are very good cars, Honda is hype, and though that will be a neverending debate (Honda loses upon close analysis for being a hype badge with an H and no power, reputation only as reliable and thats it, read my Best Answer) I want to tell you you have purchased an excellent car that is very fast with the VR6 (if a VW four is not Turbo, it is OK but nothing special.)

So, Thank You. (My first car was a 1986 Volkswagen Jetta 5-speed, two years before they stopped making them in Germany in 1988. If your VIN starts with WVW, it is Germany. 3VW, it is Mexico.)

Now, onto your question.

You have the VR6. It is a German V6. German engines like the heavier oil. They are not afraid of it. Japanese and American CAR engines are afraid of anything heavier than 10W-30. Germany loves weight. In the engine, in the car, it is their safety and design. Heavy all the way.

I personally would make your first oil change Valvoline MaxLife 10W-40 (always change the filter with it, but you can make it any filter you want, most of the time they dont do a lot due to their position on the engine) and add it 5 quarts even (you have a V6.) Doing that, you should have it up to the Full line on the dipstick, I always like it to Full, not in the middle. You can let it drip out or not, it doesnt matter (each quart when filling.)

10W-40 oil is ehavier and protects more than 10W-30 oil and will not significantly addect your mileage. Going heavier (and there are at least 3 grades of oil, more like 4 heavier than 10W-40 if you count the non-Multigrades) is unnecessary in your vehicle, unless your engine is in serious peril, then it might buy it some more thime, but that is not going to save it ultimately either.... another discussion for another day. (When your engine drinks oil almost like gas, as a joke. Means it is about to pass on to the VW salvage yard in the sky. No saving it, it served well.)

Multigrade starts as '10' weight (an approvimate number of the CFM moved through the engibe when cold, hence W for Winter) and gets up to 40-weight when at engine temperature. YOU -CAN- USE 10W-40 ALL YEAR. IT IS DESIGNED TO START UP IN THE WINTER, AS LONG AS YO DONT LIVE IN MINNESOTS WHERE IT GETS BELOW 0 DEGREES. NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW THAT. It will also protect very good up to about 100 or 110 degrees, and is the best spread.

You do not ever need to use heavier oil than 10W-40 in your VS Passat. You also do not need to use anything lighter.

THe MaxLife itself is more like a Synthetic Blend, and i tis OK. Full Synthetic is frequently a problem CAUSER in an old engine, as it knocks out things that were sealing something. It is also like conventional, and its base oils are that, with additives 'synthetic.' Synthetic means anything a manufacturer wants it to mean.

Enjoy your 93 Passat, dont get too many speeding tickets on the highway with it (It will go over 100MPH with -ease,- just like my BMW inline-6, also powerful with nothing but Torque) an dI am almost sure it has over 75,000 miles on it. Thank You.
brand is not an issue. if you have the owner's manual, look in there, it will tell you. if not, call a vw dealer and ask them. it is probably 5w30.
Well congratulations!!

5W30 is the recommended oil. I have all my customers running synthetics in thier VW's.

Brands are more a matter of preferance than anything. Personnally, I like Amsoil. Harder to find, but the only pure synthetic on the market. But the key to synthetic oil is to use a filter designed for it. Its more costly, but how much is your car worth to you??
if you have owners manual is in there, or any auto parts store can tell you or go on line to the NAPA web site or auto zone web site and it will tell you.
see if you can find out what brand of oil the previous owner used and stick with that brand . it is sometimes bad to change up brands. as long as it is sae approved oil with weight that is in step with the driving temps you should be fine.
i think 10-40 Valvoline would be the best.in a car of this age i cant see the point of using an expensive or synthetic oil.

What gear oil weight do i need for a 2004 hyundai tiburon straight 4 version?

it depends if for transmission or drive axel!

Are peanut butter and coconut oil effective for weight loss?

I've read that peanut butter and coconut oil are effective for managing weight and for eating healthy. However, they do tend to have a lot of calories and fat. But are they effective? (I'm not dieting or anything, my mom just told me that they were good for that.)Are peanut butter and coconut oil effective for weight loss?
Coconut oil is better than most other oils for you. I'm not sure about peanut butter, but it is a pretty nutritious source of food. The key, as with other things, is moderation. Replace other oils you would use with coconut oil, instead of adding it to your diet. Don't focus on it having a lot of calories or a lot of fat. Fats are one of those foods that are so varible depending on what kind you have. Some fats are good for you, some aren't.

I eat a lot of sushi, usually the crabstick or salmon with avacado, both salmon and avacado have a lot fats, but they are good fats, and I noticed I've started to slim down a little, and I feel better since i've been eating sushi for lunch, as opposed to Mcdonald's or fast food.Are peanut butter and coconut oil effective for weight loss?

What oil weight should I use in my 07 crf50?

What does the Owner manual say? (You can't expect us to reccomend oil with out reading the manual. And why should we read a manual for YOUR bike if YOU won't?) That said, I suggest 15W-50 from Mobil. It's a synthetic oil, and it gets HOT down here. So I can usually stretch my oil changing interval to once a year, at the end of the riding season. To the extent there is an end, here, I guess January would be it.What oil weight should I use in my 07 crf50?
experiment.... if you don't have a book, if you do use what it says... if not.... like i said experiment

i started off with 10w 40, bike vibrated at most rpm ranges, so i went with a heavier weight... 15w 40 is the usual tho.

oh yeah, i live in texas and currently am using 25w 40 (with good resutls... it was actually 4 cycle boat engine oil... but my bike doesn't virbrate or lose power)What oil weight should I use in my 07 crf50?
10w40 is sufficient

What if I used a thinner weight oil???

My 86 Camaro V6 takes 10W30 but at the last oil change 5W30 was put in it.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages with using a thinner weight oil??What if I used a thinner weight oil???
Advantages include less time for oil to flow into the engine on startup and reduced effort to pump the oil. However, I would only switch to a thinner oil during relatively cooler weather, especially in an older, more-worn engine (as your '86 almost certainly is). This is especially true in summertime, when hotter temps usually dictate heavier oil to compensate for the thinning oil experiences as it warms. This is why racing oils are available in viscosities like 20W-50 (do not use this in your Camaro, however).

The recommendation of oil weight depends on the design of the engine and the conditions in which it operates. So, unless you live in Alaska, I would stay with 10W-30 during summer months and save the 5W-30 for the winter. That being said, if your engine is in relatively good shape, you can almost certainly use 5W-30 w/out any problems, as the differences btween the two are small. Just don't go putting something really light like 0W-20 in your car.What if I used a thinner weight oil???
a thinner oil lubricates faster and works better in colder weather,the thicker the oil is the longer it takes it to start circulating in a really cold engine,using a thinner oil wont hurt it none unless it uses oil and you,ll notice that it will use a little more if you use a thinner oil in it,other than that it will just circulate better and hold a slight bit more oil pressure,the real dis-advantage on doing that if the engine is high mileage it may start smoking and using oil,good luck.
Slightly better gas milage. On a 86 though I would use heavier such as 10/40 or 20/50. Why? cause it is very likely the engine has quite a bit of wear and some leaks, heavier oil will alleviate those issues better.
first number is viscosity of oil when it is cold second number is viscosity of oil when hot
The ';W'; means winter. For all practical purposes, when hot, 5W30 and 10W30 are virtually the same oil. When cold, the ';5'; will flow faster than ';10';. This will make oil available sooner when the engine starts up, avoiding any possibility of ';galling';, or metal-to-metal contact, between moving parts. On high mileage cars there is a tendency to pour ';heavier'; oils to cover for leakages caused by metal wear. If you decide to do this, look for 5W40 or 10W40 - which you may or may not find locally.

What weight oil should i use in my MF35 tractor? (3 cyl. perkins diesel) i live in florida where its hot?

Best to consult Perkins. If you don't have access to a manual, any 15W-40 oil will do fine. Big rigs get over a million miles on it, and Ford Powerstrokes get over 300,000 regularly.
15w30 for most deisels

  • What is the recommended oil weight for a 6.6-liter duramax diesel motor? For a 2007 Chevy Silverado.?

    I plan on using mobil one synthetic oil. Its my first time changing my oil on my truck should I do anything different from when I change the oil on a standard gas motor?What is the recommended oil weight for a 6.6-liter duramax diesel motor? For a 2007 Chevy Silverado.?
    15w-40 weight is what you should use and always change your oil filter WIX is the way to go, hand tighten filter,dip your finger in clean oil and go around your gasket of oil filter before installing, its all the same when changing oil, but make sure you know how many qt's it takes and do not over fill. And hell while your at it i'd check the fuel and air filter now that your hoods open..... Oh i change my oil every 3,000-5,000 miles, but i run my trucks pretty hard (farm work).What is the recommended oil weight for a 6.6-liter duramax diesel motor? For a 2007 Chevy Silverado.?
    15-40, the same for all diesel engines, except for the N/A VW 2.4.
    owners manual will have it listed
    Most Diesel in pickup trucks require 20/40 weight.Be prepaired check owners manual,also you should check manuel for oil capacities every diesel required far more oil than a gasoline engine.Changing the oil itself is no different then gas engine
    you should use any weight oil you like in your diesel as long as it is rated xd-3 usually the best is 15w40. but i'm not to sure about synthetic for diesels. the only thing i would do different about changing the oil would be to fill the new filter with oil before installing it, making sure to coat the seal with oil. also with a diesel, change the fuel filter.(saves a lot of headackes.
    Your Duramax calls for a high quality 15W - 40 diesel engine oil. Please change the oil filter with an AC-Delco or a Wix brand. Get in the habit of following your service schedule - fuel filters in perticular.

    Is ';corn oil'; a good weight gainer for horses?

    My 16.3 1//2 hand TB is very thin. Yes he is grained, wormed and hayed properly. I have heard a little corn oil added to grain helps. Is there any negitives and how much should I put in,Is ';corn oil'; a good weight gainer for horses?
    Wow, sounds just like my TB! My vet specifically said to feed corn oil to put weight on instead of weight gainer for my horse b/c it is a lot cheaper. Start with 1/4 c a day for several days, then move to 1/2 cup a day for several days, then a whole cup a day til you finally are giving 1 whole cup twice daily in his grain every day. You want to very slowly increase how much you are giving him, b/c it will give him loose stills at first. Start with a small amount and as long as his stools stay firm, add more. Corn oil is a great cheap way to put weight on horses, doesnt matter what kind or from where. I buy the huge one at walmart for like $9. Horses dont process oils in there body like we do, so it doesnt have the negative effects on their bodies like it does on ours. Another thing you might try is the beet pulp. It really works, i also mix some soaked beet pulp in my horses food twice a day. Hope that helps!Is ';corn oil'; a good weight gainer for horses?
    Yes, but no more than a cup a day should be fed or it can lead to digestive upsets. As another posted, it can interfere with the absorption of some supplements. Also as another post mentions, equine senior feed is an excellent feed for a horse of any age. It is easily digested, prevents colic, aids in weight gain,and it doesn't over energize the horse. Purina is the best regulated for content. You can also add either beet pulp or stabilized rice bran to the feed for weight gain. The rice bran must be stabilized, which balances the minerals for equine consumption.
    Yes, corn oil is a good source of fat. Adding a tablesppon will help give him a shiny coat and should help him atleast a little bit in gaining weight. I know many TBs are hard to get weight on, but you may want to check the quality of your hay. Get a nice 2nd cutting of grass/timothy hay, maybe mixed with a little alfalfa to help put some weight on.

    Some horses, no matter how much food they get, refuse to put on weight! If they are older or younger, it can sometimes be difficult too. Also, try putting your horse out 24/7 if at all possible, you might be surprised how many normally thin horses transition to a better weight just from being in a nice paddock (less stress than being cooped up). Hope this helps!
    You're not feeding enough corn oil to make a difference on the weight issue. It will help for minerals and coat, but nothing to really put weight on.

    I'm in California and if I have a horse who's starting to look a bit ';ribby'; or I've purchased some rack of bones, I go out and buy a 50LB sack of A%26amp;M (Ground alfafa and molasses) (In the mid west they use beet pulp BUT I've been informed that you HAVE to add water to it or it will swell in a horse's belly causing colic), dump it into a tub or feeder in the horse's stall, then top it with some rolled barley corn that is mixed with corn oil and apple cider vinegar. (I feed a 3LB coffee can of the barley corn mixture once a day.) The horse will normally devour the first couple of bags of A%26amp;M, but then they will slack off as they get used to it (Never had an issue with colic or founder)...

    I haven't fed oats or any mixed feed in decades, basically because I've had running horses and TBs I'm trying to keep quiet, so I feed the rolled barley corn mixture to them for weight, NOT heat.

    I also give my horses a hot bran mash twice a week with a 1/2 CUP of apple cider vinegar and corn oil (I can mix the barleycorn into it.). I feed 1/2 a 3 LB coffee can of red wheat flakey bran and add enough water to it so that it looks like oatmeal in consistancy.

    I make sure that they get 2 flakes of alfafa hay per feeding.
    Oil is calories, and oil is oil (as long as it is food grade) so it doesn't matter what kind you use, about a cup is all that should be added. Oil should not be used at a feeding that has any supplements as it can inhibit the absorption of those expensive add ins.

    Many TB's do well on Purina's Equine Senior even when they are not old. It has higher caloric content, including oil, but it won't make him hot.

    We also add a beet pulp daily for our ';skinnies'; and they seem to really like it. You can use pellets or shreds, water soak it in double or more the amount of pulp you use. It soaks up well in about an hour, but at least 1/2 hour is needed. I soak a scoop of beet pulp and 1/2 scoop of senior for my TBs that need some weight. SmartPak.com has really good information about beet pulp and other nutrition questions you might have.

    There is an urban legend that if you give a horse beet pulp and don't soak it long enough or well enough that the horse's gut will explode. It is just that, so don't fret.

    Also check the obvious, have the vet look at his teeth.
    Yes. Corn or vegetable oil is really good for helping horses put on weight. It also adds shine to their coat and helps their feet become more elastic and healthier. A feed my horse(a 16hh TB, who needs to gain about 200lbs) a cup of oil a day. It, along with free choice hay and good grain, has helped her fill out a lot throughout her topline and everywhere she needs weight. Her coat is also a lot shinier, and her feet are stronger and less brittle, which has helped her hold her shoes well. Hope I helped!!
    I had a very thin runt. My vet suggested canola oil (1 cup) daily added to sweet feed and add a product called Fastrak. Worked well and his coat was shiny. He is black, so the shine was wonderful. Goodluck.
    I don't think a small amount is going to help him put on any weight. And if you give him too much he'll wind up with really loose stools or diarrhea. However, a little may help give him a shiny coat...
    I just started using corn oil and rice bran for our thin horse everyone told me it will work we will just have to see in a few weeks. But my vet said it would pack on pounds and not make them hot
    i don't no about weight gain don't thing so but its good for the coat just don't over do it.
    no because horse does not eat corn
    no corn oil is for there coat to shine

    Will the wrong weight of oil in a car cause the oil pump to fail?

    The only way to find the reason an oil pump failed is to take it apart and see the condition of the gears inside the oil pump and pressure spring. In other words what broke?

    I on the other hand do make a big deal about oil viscosity. Single cylinder gasoline motors in lawn mowers snow blowers and lawn tractors call for 5W30 or 10W-30. Not too long ago there were several makes of large leavy lawn tractors in our shop with rods through the block during the Winter. Guys were trying to blow snow with 30 weight engine oil in these motors. Upon doing a little research with John Deere it was found that in sub-freezing weather the oil was not running back to the splash oilers fast enough. 5W-30 solved the problem immediately.

    You can either go to Mobil's website and look up what your car should have or your glove compartment handbook. The correct viscosity oil pumps to critical engine parts faster on cold start-ups. It cools the internals better because it *adsorbs heat more efficiently. More total volume of oil travels through the oil galleries using lower multi-viscosity oil. Its a proven fact that an engine requires more horsepower to pump molasses (high viscosity) oil through any oil pump than light oil. My neighbor who builds Chevy race engines for asphalt and dirt modifieds as well as late model dirt cars has dyno sheets to prove the above.

    Newer street cars and trucks cars are machined for clearance's which are tighter than 20 years ago. There's absolutely no need to dump heavy oil in motors any more. The car companies know best. As a sidelight you always get better fuel economy using the recommended viscosity oil.

    If you care to look at Joe Gibbs Racing Oil you'll see the viscosity's the team of Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Bush actually use in their race engines. If you don't have the time to look for this information I'll give it to you.

    They use 0 weight fully synthetic engine oil for qualifying. 0W-20 synthetic when restrictor plates are used during the actual race. 5W-20 synthedic when the restrictor plates are not used. Why do you suppose they do this other than engine horespower. Remenber that the unrestricted motors run all day at peak 9,500 rpm's.Will the wrong weight of oil in a car cause the oil pump to fail?
    It can if it is very thick and it is cold out. The pump can't turn if it is very thick. The oil pump driveshaft will usually break.Will the wrong weight of oil in a car cause the oil pump to fail?
    it depends on how heavy your talking about. ive used 20w50 before and it didnt hurt nothing.
    Most likely not..it might stress the pump a little bit if you are reccomende to run 5w-30 and run 10w 40 (viscosity is higher with heavier weight oil)
    Nope.
    no it will not hurt it,,,,, any oils better than none....people make too big a deal about the weight...clean oil,,new filter and topping it off when low are the keys
    If you use 40w in Greenland in the winter...maybe it would be hard to pump and cause undue stress..but that is extreme. Generally the answer is no.

    What weight of motor oil do I need for my lawn mower?

    Its time to change the oil in my lawn mower tractor. The place I bought if from no longer has the manufacture recommended oil on sale, and the last remaining bottle I have does not list the weight of the oil. The engine is a 25hp Kohler, 2 cylinder. Outdoor operating temperatures will be approximately 50 degrees(f) to 95 degrees (f).What weight of motor oil do I need for my lawn mower?
    Since you use it in warm weather 10w-30 will work fine. Most manufacturers recommend it.What weight of motor oil do I need for my lawn mower?
    You need SAE -30 in most gas lawn mowers. That's what I've been using for years in a Briggs %26amp; Stratton engine. Change it every spring, with doing a carburetor cleaning, or in the case of a tractor, oil filter replacement.
    10w-30 or 10w-40
    Use straight 30 W for those temps. Change to 10W30 for below 50
    30 weight oil is used in almost all lawn mowers and tractors.
    I actually use 30 weight oil (one weight) in all of my small engines but u can use the multi weight oil such as 10w30 or 10w40

    I would use 10W40, power steering is just power steering, and tranny fluid you shouldn't need any.2002 nissan sentra ser, 93,000 miles, what motor oil weight should I use, also for transmission, and power ste
    Assuming that there is no unusual wear on the engine, I would say it depends on where you live actually. If you live in a climate, where it can be hot or cold, you should use a good 10W30 oil. This means that the oil will be better suited to flow when it's cold out and not be too thick. As a vehicle gets older, say 150,000 miles or so. Move to 10W40. This means that when it is cold it will have the same weight as 10W30, but have a higher warm viscosity, for engines with more wear.

    You only want to use a straight weight oil (I.E. SAE30 or SAE40) in a place like Florida or California, where the temperature variance is not that great. Even in the desert, though you still want to use multi-viscosity oil like 10W30, because remember that in the desert, the nighttime temperature can be much lower and you want the oil to flow correctly in the cold. Hope that gives you some good info for that.

    As for transmission fluid, use the type that Nissan recommends. Power steering fluid is pretty much the same across the board.

    Has anyone really lost weight with coconut oil?

    You read lots of stuff on various sites about how just having a few spoonfuls a day will increase your metabolism and make you lose weight but you can't help wondering (well I can't anyway) if the testamonies they give are just made up. Any real live experiences out there that can attest to coconut oil making you lose weight?Has anyone really lost weight with coconut oil?
    That's just ';infomercial'; fake junk. All those testimonial are just fake.

    There are four types of coconut oil: Refined oil (not suitable for consumption); Hydrogenated oil, Fractionated oil (both have elevated saturated fat and their regular consumption can lead to increase the risk of developing a cardiovascular disease); Virgin coconut oil (this one is said to be healthier and to help prevent cardiovascular diseases and other problems BUT more studies are needed since there is nothing final; the biggest problem is that unlike ';virgin olive oil'; there is nobody controlling the ';virgin coconut oil'; so anyone can sell you motor oil (this is exaggerating but you got the point) and claim to be ';virgin coconut oil';).

    So don't start taking coconut oil like a mad man; like any other oil, take it in moderation.Has anyone really lost weight with coconut oil?
    ive lost 24 lbs! Ive stopped consuming anything that has hydrogenated fats (Soy, corn and safflower oils Cottonseed oil, Canola oil) and high fructose corn syrup (harder then it sounds!) 鈥攁nd you will see noticeable weight loss improvements, and health improvements!

    Also started using coconut oil or real butter to cook with instead of hydrogenated oils and spreads... The energy i have now is so impresive compared to what it was 6 months ago before i started using coconut oil. Believe it or not, medium chained fatty acids (mostly in butterfat and the tropical oils) They go straight to your liver where they produce energy, compaired to long chain fatty acids (Hydronated oils,) absorb as fat)

    So give it a try what do you have to loose?
    I dont know about coconut oil but I take b-12 and it is great... it gives you tons of engery and it suppose to speed up the metabolism also
    Coconut oil contributes 9.0 calories per gram, the same as any other fat.
    coconut oil does no such thing

  • Pure virgin coconut oil for weight loss?

    My friend is really into health food and alternative medicines. She swears by pure virgin coconut oil and keeps insisting that I try it to help with weight loss and metabolism. I'm just curious to hear about the benefits and if it's OK for your body if you eat it with food on a regular basis.Pure virgin coconut oil for weight loss?
    Although I am not a healthcare pro or anything, I've been using extra virgin coconut oil for about a month now. I've noticed a small weight loss (5lbs) but I do feel great! I use it before I work out in the morning and I do seem to have more energy. My skin also is more clear and smooth. There is a book called ';The Coconut Diet'; (you can get it on amazon.com), I just bought the book and have not finished it yet. I does give you ideas on what foods to eat with the coconut oil. I have a hard time eating it. It looks like Crisco and the consistancy makes me gag. I've been putting into a cup of hot water to melt it with sugar free instant coffee powder in the morning and drinking it that way. It helps it go down better. I also seem to not want sweets as much and I feel quite full after drinking it. So far no negative effects but no Major weightloss either.

    In order to lubricate a car engine, engine oil must remain viscous. The “W” in motor oil stands for weight. 10?

    Wrong. In order to lubricate an oil must be able to flow to the bearings. A 0W or 5W will flow better at cold temperatures and therefore provide better lubrication upon start up in cold climates. Once warmed up the internal temperature of an engine is pretty much the same regardless of the time of year. So the top viscosity number in this day and age is required more by how close the tolerances are of the engine than by any outdoor temperature. Thus some manufacturers now recommend 5W20 oil instead of 5W30 because those engines using 5W20 are built to closer tolerances.

    Use what your vehicle manufacturer recommends.

    And the ';W'; does not stand for weight. It stands for winter.

    The best oil in the winter in Canada would be Mobil 1 0W30 if 5W30 or 10W30 is recommended for your vehicle or 0W20 if 5W20 is recommended. I use 0W30 in my '96 Honda even though 5W30 is recommended and I use 0W20 in my '02 Honda CR-V even though 5W20 is recommended. These oils may be used year-round and it doesn't matter if you live in Canada or Mexico although they will protect your car more during cold weather in the North.

    Thicker is Better Myth

    The reason that oil viscosities have gotten thinner is because bearing clearances have become smaller. Using thicker oils will interfere with oil flow and the oil pressure will increase. In a worn engine it may be okay to increase the viscosity of the oil because the bearing clearances have become larger.In order to lubricate a car engine, engine oil must remain viscous. The “W” in motor oil stands for weight. 10?
    Because you want the lightest weight possible for ease of starting. If your engine oil was say straight 30 weight all the time, then it would be a lot harder for the battery and the starter to even just turn the engine over, so hence chemically they alter oil to make it lighter. Then as the ENGINE heats up, the oil gradually get thicker up to the maximum specified on the bottle-give or take a small amount. It has nothing or very little to do with outdoor temperature, but engine temperature. It can be -20 degrees outside but if the vehicle has been driven at 60 mph for 3 hours the internal temp of the engine will be about 700 degrees.

    Hope this answers your questionIn order to lubricate a car engine, engine oil must remain viscous. The “W” in motor oil stands for weight. 10?
    A couple generations ago, oil was sold by straight-up weight. 30-weight, 40-weight. The higher the number, the better the oil's cooling and lubricating power, and the more it sticks to engine parts--and the more work it takes to move the engine parts through the oil. Most engines were built to run on 30 or 40 weight, so the oil won't break down at the engine's running temperature. But in a Canada winter, 40-weight is as thick as molasses. In the cold, when your battery is weakest, making the engine turn is just about impossible. So you use a multigrade oil, say, 10w40. At normal ambient temperatures, this oil acts like a 10-weight, but when it gets hot (over 150) it starts acting like a 40-weight.

    Some cars owners manuals have a chart recommending what oil to use in what climate. You need 10w if you're going to be starting below 30 F. You need 40 if it's going to be over 100F. 30w is ok between 30F and 90F, or something like that.
    the w stands for winter referring to the weight of the oil when it is cold. a light weight oil will get to the critical areas faster than a heavy weight oil. when the engine is warm oil viscosity will increase and there by increases the protection that it offers to loaded areas of an engine.
    That is so it can efficiently lubricate your motor and transfer heat in all conditions preventing motor lock up from the oil freezing or getting so hot it loses its lubricating qualities.

    What weight oil do i put in my 86 toyota pickup, its 2wd, extra cab, and i think its sr5?

    I have an 85 pickup with a 22r in it and I use castrol 20W50 and have seen great results.What weight oil do i put in my 86 toyota pickup, its 2wd, extra cab, and i think its sr5?
    You know, you'd think this would be extremely easy to find on the Internet, because, after all, oil for a car/truck is the most important thing to keep it running well. But it's FRICKIN' DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!!!

    I'm getting a 2002 Toyota Rav4 from my brother, I wanted to see what kind of oil it used. I looked all over on internet, and short of having to buy a owner's manual, I couldn't find it!! That's ridiculous!! To not be able to find what kind of oil it should use!! Oh, you can find HOW MUCH to put in engine, but not what kind!! Rats!!

    Well, okay, so much for my ranting. Try to answer your question.

    You can always use the old standards of 10w30 or 10w40. I would strongly suggest Castrol, I have found it to be EXCELLENT oil.

    But some vehicles need special oil, such as 20w50 or even 5w15, because cars and trucks are made so much more specifically nowadays, they can use the finer oils. I would think that it should say somehwere under the hood what kind of oil to use. Maybe even on the oil cap, sometimes they print it there so you see it each time you go to check the oil. or perhaps a label somewhere under the hood.

    Or just call a local auto parts store like NAPA or Autozone and ask them. I'd call two of them to see if they give you the same answer, because they might not know and give you the old 10w30 or 10w40 answer. Those 2 oils are kinda old standards for the past few decades and can work in almost any vehicle. But it's better to be sure. Good luck.

    PS--I won't know about my Rav4 until I actually get it!!What weight oil do i put in my 86 toyota pickup, its 2wd, extra cab, and i think its sr5?
    5W30 or 10W30 any brand of dino oil.

    My mom did it and it worked for her. She also used apple cider vinegar and that sped it up. Just take a tablespoon before you eat... I think that's what it is.Has anyone here ever heard of taking coconut oil to lose weight. How much are you supposed to take and...?
    Coconut oil does not help you loose weight. To loose weight, excercise daily, and get on an eating plan. As a child I was extremely over-weight and I got on an eating and excercise plan and lost over 50 pounds!

    Can I use regular 30 weight oil in my chain saw bar or should I use regular bar and chain oil?

    Bar oil is simply a higher viscosity than thirty weight motor oil. If you want to use thirty weight the automatic oiler on your saw is adjustable and you will need to use a little more. There are plenty of professionals who don't buy expensive bar oil. Can I use regular 30 weight oil in my chain saw bar or should I use regular bar and chain oil?
    I prefer motor oil to ';bar oil';. I have always used 30 weight or 10W30 weight oil in my saws. My current saw is 5 years old, has gotten heavy use, and has no wear to the blades or the original bar.

    When the first small chainsaws came out they had manual oilers that you had to pump with your thumb while cutting. I talked to a factory rep at that time who said that if you could use 2 tanks of oil for each tank of gas that would be best to oil the bar and blade, and help keep the bar clean. The recommendation then was for motor oil.

    I have found that 2 things are critical to preventing wear to the bar and chain. The first is that the bar is getting oil. The oiler can get clogged with sawdust in some situations so that oil does not get to the bar and chain. The second is keeping sand out of the bar. This wears a bar out quick.

    I think the price of bar oil is a scam, to sell oil at a high price to people who do not know any better. Can I use regular 30 weight oil in my chain saw bar or should I use regular bar and chain oil?
    I've seen homeowners use recycled motor oil as their bar oil. Professionals scoff at this, because this kind of oil doesn't stick very long to the bar, so the chain and bar wears out faster.

    You yes, you could use it, but it's not ideal by any means.
    Bar %26amp; chain oil is manufactured to stick to the chain and the space between it and the bar. I use 30w most of the time but the chain throws some off the front.
    Yes,I do with mine and works great.

    Will the wrong weight oil blow the gasket on the oil filter?

    No, it doesnt affect the gaskets, but it'll affect the engine's performance.Will the wrong weight oil blow the gasket on the oil filter?
    it shouldn't if you prepped the gasket properly!! on new gasket put some of oil on it with your finger so its not dry when you reattach it.. helps the gasket like lube (Don't use wd-40 as it is solvent).Will the wrong weight oil blow the gasket on the oil filter?
    No, not likely. More likely is an improperly installed filter, or one where the gasket from the old filter was left stuck to the engine, and the new filter installed on top of it...a common mistake.
    It shouldn't, the only way to blow a gasket is if you didn't have the filter on tight enough.
    if you put to heavy an oil you could possibly blow out gaskets if the oil pressure got to high

    What body types does virgin coconout oil help to lost weight?

    I've taken it and I think I am seeing myself gain weight rather than to lose weight. What are other benefits of taking virgin coconut oil?What body types does virgin coconout oil help to lost weight?
    You might be taking it to late in the day. Take one tablespoon in the morning and one tablespoon at lunch, that should solve the problem. Make sure the coconut oil you are taking is raw organic cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil. It does balance the thyroid gland which helps maintain proper metabolism. If you are still concerned about taking it then it might be a good idea to buy a coconut oil wight loss book which has more detailed information, there are couple out there.

    Here is a link to hight quality coconut oil, you can also find this brand in most health food stores.

    I don't believe that coconut oils is intended to be used for weight loss ... it is intended to replace less healthy oils that you might be taking.

    Hopefully, you are not just downing a tablespoon of coconut oil every day in addition to your regular diet.
    u probably need the deflowered coconut oil.
    Hi there. Call me crazy, but any oil is 100% pure fat so how could adding that many calories from fat to your diet help you drop pounds? It's totally counterintuitive. I think that you should stop taking it and maybe just reduce overall calories/exercise. Taking oil to drop weight makes no sense medically!
    its good for all body types.....I would say ur weight gain is probly due to something else in your life!

    I have 2006 Sportster XL1200 what oil weight should I put in?What oil weight is used in Harley?
    20W50.What oil weight is used in Harley?
    Harley recommends:

    10W40 below 40 degrees F.

    20W50 above 40 degrees F.

    50 above 60 degrees F.

    60 above 80 degrees F.

    20W50 is a good all around choice for most riding, and is what they are shipped with from the factory.
    Well I would ask a Harley mechanic before I put something in my HOG that a total stranger says is good - but 20w50 is correct according to my manual.
    Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Engine Oil 20W50 is the best and ALL the Harley Owners use Amsoil
    In both of mine ('80 Sporty and '48 Panhead) I run 50 in the Winter and 60 in the Summer with 75/90 in the case.

    Is it ok to use 30 weight non detergent oil on a 2 cycle gas powered scooter?

    I have a 2 cycle engine gas powered scooter, and my grandfather says to use 30 weight non-detergent oil in place of 2 stroke oil. Is that safe?Is it ok to use 30 weight non detergent oil on a 2 cycle gas powered scooter?
    no. only use 2-stroke oil. sorry gramps is wrong.Is it ok to use 30 weight non detergent oil on a 2 cycle gas powered scooter?
    yes, but ONLY if it's a Bultaco.
    I had an old Vespa in the early 60's that had a 2 cycle engine.

    Being that I was in the service I had minimum pay so I would use 9250 lube oil from the motor pool, this is basic 30 wt. motor oil. I would mix one cup of oil to one tank of gas. When I sold the scooter it had over 80,000 miles on it and the only problem I ever had was keeping the spark plug clean. I would have to pull the plug about every 100 miles and clean and regap.
    when you have a 2 stroke bike you always want to mix your gas with a 2 cycle oil, if you don't your engine will not be lubricating itself leading to catastrophic failure.
    NO!!!

    Very Important- How do I calculate the molecular weight of an oil with high amount of fatty acids?

    P.S. I am given saponification and acid numbers.Very Important- How do I calculate the molecular weight of an oil with high amount of fatty acids?
    you can only calculate for the average molecular weight, since an oil contains various fatty acids (with different MWs). you can compute for the # of moles from the acid and saponification values. # moles = weight of oil / MW.Very Important- How do I calculate the molecular weight of an oil with high amount of fatty acids?
    well, the oil is made up of individual molecules, each molecule has the same weight, so write out the molecular formula and then add up all the atomic weights. i dont see what the problem is. you dont need its structure or anything.

    Has anyone had good results using virgin coconut oil for weight loss or to improve health?

    Yes, my daughter eats about 3 tblspoons a day I think, and she says it gives her energy. She is losing weight but she is also exercising. She says the oil gives her the energy to get out and do it! So if it gives her that much energy then she has to be burning calories because of it. I know she spreads some on toast with lowfat peanutbutter and even put it in hot tea where it floats on top but she mixes it before she takes a drink. She melts it and pours into her blender when she makes a smoothie.Has anyone had good results using virgin coconut oil for weight loss or to improve health?

    Can I use 5w-30 motor oil in my lawn mowers instead of recommended 30 weight oil??

    Owners manuals for my lawn mowers say to use 30 weight oil. Can I use 5w-30 motor oil in the lawn mowers without any problems? What is the difference between 30 weight oil and 5w-30 motor oil?Can I use 5w-30 motor oil in my lawn mowers instead of recommended 30 weight oil??
    According to Briggs and Stratton, use SAE 30 or 10W-30. 5W-30 is used in cold weather engines, i.e. snow blowers. If the oil gets too thin then it will not lubricate properly.

    Kohler wants you to use SAE 30 in their K series and Magnum series engines, but 10W-30 in their Command, and Courage engines.Can I use 5w-30 motor oil in my lawn mowers instead of recommended 30 weight oil??
    Yes, absolutely. Don't let it bother you or anyone tell you different. The best oil to use is a 30wt detergent blend however any oil of lubrication made for motors of the internal combustion design is satisfactory. These motors are not engines of rocket craft and are simply the most rudimentary of our engines used today. The difference with the weight classifications is the viscosity or the texture thickness of the oil and its additives during various temperatures outside the motor when starting and of the motor while running. Take a look at the oil on the dipstick prior to starting and note the viscosity and then again after running and see the difference in the oils viscosity when heated.

    Also as a bit of info,.....you CAN use any oil you want even cooking oil but you MAY only use motor oil made for the inernal combustion engine,....get the ==-point-%26gt; ?
    Its far too difficult to explain the weights of motor oil. 5w 30 will work. It is really too light, and you should use 30 wt.

    5w30 maintains its viscosity over extreme temperature changes. When its hot, 5w30 will get too thin to properly lubricate your lawn mower.

    It's a Ford, any leakage? Lucas products work well.
    It really depends on what kind of climate you live in. If you are in the south, 10W40 or 20W50 will do year 'round. When I was working in Illinois in February those were a tad thick, and 5W30 would have been a better choice. If in doubt, there is a temperature to oil viscosity chart in your owners manual. The best way to choose an oil weight is based on ambient temperature.
    Fram oil filters are the most overpriced and cheaply made filters available

  • What is the electric force require to balance the weight of the oil droplet?

    I am thoroughly confused on this question.

    Millikan鈥檚 experiment measures the charge of an electron by suspending charged oil droplets in an electric field. If an oil droplet with a mass of 3.35 脳 10鈥?5 kg has the same charge as an electron. What electric force is required to balance the weight of the oil droplet?What is the electric force require to balance the weight of the oil droplet?
    Electrical force = weight

    = m*g

    = 3.35*10^-15 * 9.8

    = 3.283 * 10^-14

    is you want to know the electric field intensity then replace electric force by qE. Divide both sides by q=-1.6*10^-19 to get E.What is the electric force require to balance the weight of the oil droplet?
    Electric Field(E) = (4/3)(pi)((r)^3)[Q]/r^2. Here Q is the charge creating the electric field.

    E.q=3.35x10^(-15) x 9.81 Newton.

    where q is the charge of an electron.

    Given either of E or q, one may find the other.

    On or in it? 10-30 10-40.
    depends on the use, and the temp of your envroment. and the mileage. hot weather calls for heavier wieght while cold requires lighter wieight. and the higher the mileage the heavier the oil should be.
    Use 10W-30 synthetic it will make the engine run longer
    if it gets cold, use lighter oil in the winter,5-30, summer,10-40 will work nicely.
    10-40 summer, 10-30 winter
    10W-30. I have seen 10W-40 used once in a while and rarely 5W-30.
    This time of year, the lightest you can find. A good all-round compromise would be 10W-40. Picking a brand is like the standard arm-wrestling between Ford and Chevy and Mopar lovers. But FWIW, I like Castrol best.

    What is the correct weight of oil to put in a 59AB flathead Ford engine?

    Back then they were using straight weights of oil. 20w, 30w, 40W, 50w. the higher the number the thicker the oil. Depending on the type of driving and temperature of your area you would adjust your weights. Hard driving(heavier oils), cold temps(lighter oils). Most used 30w. Today's multi-grades will also work covering both situations. 10w-30w or 15w-40w will work.What is the correct weight of oil to put in a 59AB flathead Ford engine?
    I assume this is a late-50s car engine? I think the original oil was a non detergent 20w or 30w. If the engine is in good shape (not worn out) 10-W30 detergent oil should be fine. I would also add a pint of the STP oil additive with Zinc. US passanger car oil doesn't have zinc in it any more, and older engines need the zinc as an anti-wear additive for the cam and lifters.

    What weight of engine oil does a 2005 SUZUKI VINSON atv take?

    I am thinking it takes 10w 40 oil but i could be wrong that's why i am asking =) Also what type of oil filter does this bike take and link to a site with them if possible. Thanks.What weight of engine oil does a 2005 SUZUKI VINSON atv take?
    check the owner's manual. That's why they have these things.What weight of engine oil does a 2005 SUZUKI VINSON atv take?
    i would run 20:50 castrol motorcycle oil.

    your local suzuki dealer will have the oil

    filter you need.
    i would run 30 wt in it thats what i run all of my three wheelers and 4 wheeler on....

    Should I change the weight of oil I use at 100K miles?

    I drive a 2000 Ford Ranger with the 4.0L pushrod engine. It currently has 110,000 miles on it. The owners manual states that 5W30 oil should be used. The reason the auto makers are switching to thinner oils like 5W30, 5W20, etc is because the engine tolerances are much tighter on newer vehicles. My truck still runs great, but engines with 110,000 miles are generally starting to get a little worn. Should I switch to 10W30 or even 10W40 to get the maximum lubrication on my older engine? Or is 5W30 still thick enough?Should I change the weight of oil I use at 100K miles?
    use 10w30Should I change the weight of oil I use at 100K miles?
    Why don't you ask people who work with these things everyday? They can tell you in a minute what type to use. Ask where you go to buy the oil.
    Castrol do an oil specifically for engines with over 75,000 miles on the clock.
    Slick 50 saved the engine in my Suburban ! I went for an oil change, and somehow, no oil was replaced in my engine. It was the only time I ever tried Slick 50, and it worked ! (I was told that the oil comes in barrels, and when they're empty, it's possible that the guys in back ';forgot to replace them with full barrels.'; Try SLICK 50 !!! Thank God, they at least got THAT in my engine ! )
    The ONLY reason manufacturers recommend 5W30 is because they are required to; due to the fact that they run the light oil in the engine for the EPA mileage test.

    Run Shell Rotella-T, 15W40 unless you're in a really cold climate. It has better lubricity than synthetics. Hot Rod magazine did a multi-page article about oils, particularly as they relate to camshaft wear, a few months back. Basically car oil is getting worse, due to emission requirements on new cars, diesel oil is still carrying the max amount of what provides lubrication, which is what all, especially used %26amp; older, cars need.
    use what the manufacture says to use 5w30.. At 200K might change to 10w30 but that all depands how it sounds when it is running...
    that's not to many miles. as long as the engine has not been abused the tolerances are still tight. i would continue to use the same oil you have been. I have a 92 ranger with 4.0 and over 250,000 miles on it. good luck
    10W30
    10w40 should be fine. A littler thicker as your motor is probably wearing down and having leaks you probably can't see. It helps against burning oil due to leaks and ring issues.

    the 5w indicates the oil's viscosity recommendation for cold temperatures.Changing to a 10w 30 will make no difference unless you live in an arctic climate.If you are using a bit more oil between changes,you could benefit from using a heaver grade like 10w40. I would use the same weight, but add a product called 'Lucas' to your oil. I have been using it for years on high-mileage vehicles, and it makes a huge difference.

    They make an additive for your transmission fluid as well that I highly reccomend.

  • What is the approximate weight of oil in a container 3 feet high and 9 inches in diameter?

    What is the approximate weight of oil in a container 3 feet high and 9 inches in diameter? (Oil weighs approximately 55 pounds per cubic foot.)

    45 pounds.

    82 pounds.

    53 pounds.

    73 pounds.What is the approximate weight of oil in a container 3 feet high and 9 inches in diameter?
    Area of bottom of container = 蟺r虏

    Converting this to square feet, area will be:

    A = 蟺( (9/2) / 12)虏 = 0.4418 square feet

    Volume is area x height

    V = (0.4418 sq ft)(3 ft) = 1.325 cubic feet

    Weight = volume * density

    W = (1.325 cu ft)( 55 lbs / cu ft) = 72.9 lbs

    Your answer will thus be

    73 poundsWhat is the approximate weight of oil in a container 3 feet high and 9 inches in diameter?
    73 pounds, assuming the container is cylindrical from the reference to its diameter.

    The diameter is 9 inches or .75 foot. Halve it (to get the radius), square that and multiply by PI, to get the area of the base in square feet. Multiply that by 3 to get cubic feet, then by 55 pounds to get the weight of the oil.

    So you need to calculate the volume inside the oil container.

    The formula is Volume is

    V = (pi) h r^2

    you have d = 9 inches so first convert it to feet

    d = 9 in * (1 ft/12 in) = (9/12) ft = (3/4) ft

    r = d/2 = (3/4)/2 ft = (3/8) ft

    V = (pi) (3 ft) (3/8 ft)^2

    V =(27(pi)/64) ft^3

    Weight of the oil = V * 55 lb/ft^3

    W = (27(pi) ft^3)/64 *55 lb/ft^3

    W = ~ 72.85 lb

    9 inches = 3/4 feet diameter, so 3/8 feet radius

    Volume = pi * r^2 * h

    V = pi * (3/8 ft)^2 * 3 ft

    V = pi * 9/64 square feet * 3 ft

    V = 27/64 * pi cubic feet

    V = approx. 5.3 cubic feet.

    55 pounds/cubic foot implies approx. 71.5

    The closest of your possible answers is 73 pounds.
    Weight = Volume * Density

    where

    Volume = (pi/4)(9/12)^2(3) = 1.325 ft^3

    Density = 55 lbs/ft^3

    and substituting values,

    Weight = (1.325)(55) = 73 lbs. --- this is the fourth option in your choices.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylinder_(g鈥?/a>

    EDIT: I calculated with diameter instead of radius. I'm an idiot.
    pi(.375)^2*3=1.325

    1.325*55=72.89

    So 73 pounds

    What oil weight is best for cold winter driving?

    The ';W'; in and oils rating, such as 10W-30 means the oil meets specifications for viscosity at 0掳 F and is suitable for winter use. The only stuff you would have to change is if you've been running SAE30 you will need to switch to either 5W30 or 10W30 I would opt for 10W30 myselfWhat oil weight is best for cold winter driving?
    5w30 would be better,because its lighter and it will get to all internal parts faster.What oil weight is best for cold winter driving?
    I see some new cars recommend using 5W20, it's best to stick with their recommended oil weight. For most temperate weather most cars, 10W30 pr 10-W40 is good. In colder weather, 5W20 or 5W30 is better for cold starts, since it's thinner at start up it's easier for it to warm up.
    85-90.
    Whatever is recommended for your vehicle. The winter weight doesn't change with oil even in summer. So if your car takes 5w/30 then use that. It's rated for all year long.
    depending on year and make of car. Either 5w30 or if dodge honda or ford newer model 5w20.
    5w30, but just stick to the manufacturer recommended, or some synthetic works better if your willing to pay more.
    I asked my husband who is a Ase certified mechanic and he said it depends on the motor if u will Im me ill be glad to help
    Go by what the manufacturer recommends. It should say on the oil filler cap. The recommended viscosity, is what you should stick with............ the engine specks, oil, and the bearing clearances of the motor, are all figured by the car manufacturers engineers.
