it shouldn't if you prepped the gasket properly!! on new gasket put some of oil on it with your finger so its not dry when you reattach it.. helps the gasket like lube (Don't use wd-40 as it is solvent).Will the wrong weight oil blow the gasket on the oil filter?
No, not likely. More likely is an improperly installed filter, or one where the gasket from the old filter was left stuck to the engine, and the new filter installed on top of it...a common mistake.
It shouldn't, the only way to blow a gasket is if you didn't have the filter on tight enough.
if you put to heavy an oil you could possibly blow out gaskets if the oil pressure got to high
