While Wm B is correct to a point, any oil will do if you currently have none and HAVE to get something cut up, bar oil is actually significantly different from 30 W automotive oil. It's much heavier and has a stringy characteristic to it, that allows it to stick to the chain and the bar much better.What oil weight can be used in electric chain saws?

Bar oil is usually 30 wt.
as the lubricant? there is specific chain saw lubricant you can buy at the store. its about 5 dollars
