What weight motor oil should i use if a car normally runs a little hot?

my daughter's car has been running hot. live in central florida. it's a 99 dodge neon. what weight would be best to help it run cooler? What weight motor oil should i use if a car normally runs a little hot?
YOu shoudl fix the problem with yoru cooling system, changing oil type wont help your car overheating or running hot.

You should flush, refill your coolant, and replace the thermostat while your at it since they are only a couple bucks, and require you to drain the coolant anyways to replace. What weight motor oil should i use if a car normally runs a little hot?
Honestly, 10w30 should be Better Suited for Warmer Running Temps.

But Really, running a Thicker Oil will NOT make a Dodge Neon run Cooler.

Heres what Will make it run Cooler:

A New Thermostat! :)

Also, check the Radiator Fluid. If it's Low, then that's the Source of the Problem.

Here are some Tips:

- Replace the Thermostat (with the one that is Designed for the Engine)

- Add Coolant %26amp; Water to the Radiator if its low

- Use 10w30 Motor Oil, and Maybe 15w40 if it's Driven Hard
If the car doesn't use or leak oil stick to the factory recommended 5W-30. Believe it or not higher viscosity oil will make a hot engine run even hotter. Heavy oil doesn't absorb or get rid of heat from frictional surfaces as well as 5W-30. Full synthetic 5W-30 would make the motor run cooler also.

No American car or truck company has ever recommended 10W-40 or 20W-50. Neither are energy saving viscosity's which Dodge recommends.

Why don't you have the cooling system drained flushed and cleaned so it wouldn't run hot to begin with?
True - oil does help cool an engine but not that much if it is over heating.

Go with a straight weight such as a 30W. Living in Florida you do not need a multi-viscosity oil formulated for winter use. You need an oil that will provide dependable main and rod bearing cushion so as not to damage close tolerance parts.
How many miles do you have? and whens the last time you had a radiator flush or a new water pump put in? I have an 01 and replaced the wp 3 years ago.
Mainly check your coolant level. It should be between the 2 marks (cold and hot) on the plastic overflow container.
No oil can make your car run cooler. Use a 10w40 or 20w50 if it has low oil pressure.
