I am in the farming/lawncare buisness as well as a paid firefighter.I pull alot of somewhat large trailors with equipment on them .Some of the guys around the station couldnt beleive i still used 10w30 Valvoline.Do i need to use a heavier weight oil.Open to any suggestions.The truck is an 06 chevrolet crew cabZ71.Any suggestions are appreciated...Oil in chevrolet Z71 should i use a heavier weight oil?
NO, your friends are living in the 70's and early 80's when sloppily build engines needed heavier weight oil. Quality control, engineering and tolerances are much tighter now, heavier oil will not flow and lubricate critical parts as well as as the proper weight oil, in your case 10W-30. If you do lots of pulling I would upgrade to a synthetic, as it has much higher temperature operating range, higher flash point than conventional mineral oil. Stick with the same weight grade though.Oil in chevrolet Z71 should i use a heavier weight oil?
Couldnt of said it any better.pbleek is right.I would recommend synthetic Valvoline in the recommended weight.
