One thing i know is that Alberta in Canada (estimate 300billion barrels of oil) is destroying their land for the future (open land, cutting trees n all that) It definitely has a big impact worldwide on the environment. Degradation of the ozone layer is fact largely due to it. However, I think we will stop using oil for cars before we actually dont have any more left. It will just be replaced by something more environment-safe and that gives a good performance. Thats me!
Without it, we would not be where we are technologically. We have used it as a source of fuels for years and without it we would not have much industry. We wouldn't have plastics. Oil is a very potent source of energy just buried beneath the ground. It may not be the most efficient thing now or the best option for the environment but lets not forget where it got us.
