Castor oil? fact or fiction?

I am 36 weeks and just curious if it's true about drinking castor oil to start labor? anybody's personal experiences? I am swelling horribly but my bp is good and i have no protein in my urine so doc isn't concerned. I AM MISERABLE and my legs/feet are weeping fluid. I'm thinking I'm going to give it a week or so longer and if no labor, castor oil may be my vice...Castor oil? fact or fiction?
36 wks, you have 4 wks to go to be full term. Don't rush mother nature, especially with chemicals. I felt the same way at 36 wks. My whole body swelled like a balloon all of a sudden. If you drink pop or are eating alot of salty things try to slow down on both for the last few weeks, it helped me. Also up your water intake, drinking more water helps your body flush out more water, I know it sounds crazy but it really works. Your body will let that retained water out because it knows you will be replacing it shortly. Is this a first baby? Take it easy and enjoy the quiet time you have now. Elevate your feet when you can and don't wear shoes or if you have to ones that are not too tight.Castor oil? fact or fiction?
I have heard that castor oil does work, and it works fast. If you want a fast labor, castor oil is the trick. Things may get really intense, and quick. I have also heard of taking black cohosh, and blue cohosh together helps. You can get them at any health food store. Maybe at your next appointment you can ask your doctor to sweep your membranes to get things started. Your doctor just sweeps a finger inside and a hormone is released telling your body that it's time. Hope this helps! Good luck!
i went a week and 5 days over my due date.my doctor would not induce until it hit the 2 week mark.i was huge and suffering.i tried everything.i tried castor oil.alls it gave was severe diarhea, nausea, and leaves a nasty taste in your mouth, and light braxton hicks contractions.it can also cause intestinall issues in your hild,as well as severe dehydration. i do not recommend this at all to anyone.why risk it? when your times up your time is up to give birth to a long awaited special gift..one that you waited for, regardless of Your comfort.castor oil is CRAP.i feel it is MYTH.not fact.
Fiction. It's an old wives tale. But of course because it works for -some- people some assume it works for all. You are only 36 weeks with a due date that can be two weeks either way, so do you really want to risk kick starting your body into labor even if it is in a week or two? All you are going to do is cause yourself a lot of cramping, and then sitting on the toilet because the only thing castor oil guarantees is causing diarrhea.
Yes it will, but usually only if baby is ready to come out anyway.

You're 36 weeks, you aren't even full term yet! Suck it up and wait until your baby is ready to come out. Castor oil can be dangerous, not only does it cause you to have dirrhea, but the baby can also defecate which is EXTREMELY dangerous. Don't risk it.
It is a fact, but only works for some people. However, baby will know when is the best time for it to come out! Try and hang in there... Its ONLY a couple more weeks. I'd also educate yourself on castor oil, it may induce labor, but it'll do a WHOLE lot more than just that!!! YUCK lol :o)
i drank castor oil twice. and it did start my contractions. but not real labor. =[ and it did not make my baby release his menocium or wheatever its called. he came out perfectly healthy! i was induced about a week after i drank it the second time.
Fact, but i do not recommend this. Your baby will come when it is ready. Castor Oil can be dangerous also. If you are miserable, Consult your dr, They might schedule you a date to induce you. goodluck.
According to the book I have from the Mayo clinic, it is not true. It did say that sometimes sex can get things going.

The thing is, you want to try and go full term if you can. Technically, 37 weeks is full term, but still...hang in there!
its true with my second child i was 22 days over due and my doctor would not due anything so i drank castor oil and that night i has a ten pound 3 oz baby boy but i had to drink 3oz of castor oil
Its pure fiction,it will upset your stomach and make you sick, possibly leaving you dehydrated which is no good for you or your baby but it will not start labour.
Definitely not suggested. It can be extremely dangerous. And if it doesn't work you'll wind up miserable on the toilet all day.
I am friends with a girl who used that and it sent her literally straight into labor. She had her son within 24 hours. I guess it worked really fast! I am sure this works for some people and not for others! Good luck!
Fiction. It started because labor often starts with vomiting and diarrhea. But that stuff is the RESULT of labor, not the cause.
Yes. My grandmother did the same thing an my father was born extremely early, but lived. It works, but it's not recommended.
NOTHING WORKS THE BABY WILL COME WHEN HE/SHE GETS READY

PLUS THAT STUFF IS NASTY
It works for some people and some it doesn't
